Living in a rental home or apartment can probably make you feel like you're in a design rut. Well, I'm here to share with you that it doesn't have to be that way. There are tons of ways that you can update your rental without breaking the bank, violating leasing agreements, and easy cleanups once you move. Here are some ideas that will make your rental feel like it was designed by a professional.
There really shouldn't be any excuse why you can't make your home look and feel how you want it!
Let's break them down with three easy steps:
Changing out light fixtures: Tip #1 - Changing out your light fixtures. As you can see in the above picture the light fixture went from a flush mount to a pendant light. Sometimes lighting in rentals are carelessly placed by the builders etc. However, putting a pendant light in those places are a great way to update your space and create new lighting.
Painting an accent wall:
Tip #2 - Painting! In this picture you can see that the painted wall has created a totally different area in this living room. Even if you live in a small space this is a great way to distinguish certain areas of your rental, rather then forcing your entire area to look cohesive. A small office/working desk is better then nothing!
Peel and stick wallpaper
Tip #3 - Wallpaper. Wallpaper. Wallpaper.
This can create such a different vibe in your space that you wouldn't even realize. If you have always wanted a brick wall, well now you can have it with your cake! HAHAHHAHAHA. I love peel and stick wallpaper because it leaves no residue when you have to take it down and it's easy to install.
So, I hope that these tips will help you in your rental space to make it more of a home that you want. I do this in every rental that I have lived in and I love it. Think of your rental as a space and home that you want to be in at all times. What is it going to look like? How is it going to make you feel when you function in it?
These are questions that you should be asking yourself no matter what! I love being an Interior Designer because I get to translate your wants and needs into something great that you and I feel good about.
